Exercises in Theatre

Utu (that's me) and Anita do a little drama practice trying to kill each other.
Yesterday we had a class focusing
on expressions. We were told to make happy, sad, loving, mad and playful
expressions. I was teamed up with Amulya, Eena was with Vidheha and Anita and
Shila were with Bishesh.
Shila tries out emotional postures.
We had to experiment and teach how to express these
feelings using facial expressions and body language. We would try to make
others also feel the expressions we were presenting.
Amulya makes a great angry face and Eena smiles at everything.
Amulya always jumped when
he made an expression for some reason. All his expressions were great but his
sadness looked more like a scared face. After we practiced the faces, we had to
take pictures of these expressions.
Utu the naughty and Utu who wants to bam Anita back. Hey that's me again.
We took 5 minute to get ready and went
outside to take photos. Everybody’s expression were great and next time we do
this we will do actions like smelling a flower. I and Anita tried a small story
where she tries and kill me with a hammer!
Vidheha with the angry face and she puts on her loving face.
The next exercise we did
was relaxation by lying down. We have a book that teaches different ways of
preparing for theatre and it came in real handy. We learned to tighten our
muscle and relax them.
We practice breathing, muscle work and other cool stuff.
We did that with our fists, our eyes, our legs and other
body parts. This was also great. I really look forward to next week’s class in
theatre. We are already learning poems like Muna Madan in English and in
Nepali, Madhav Ghimmire’s short poems and Bhanubhakta Acharya poems in
preparation for these classes so we can prepare and present full blown plays.
Now that's Bishes the man. His expression? You guess.
