Thor
Film review by Utkrishta Mulmi

Directed by Kenneth Branagh; produced by Kevin Feige; actors: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston; runtime 114 minutes; Marvel Studios

This was the first of the Thor movies. It starts with Thor about to be made king. Just as the ceremony is about to conclude with him declared the ruler of Asgard, frost giants enter the secure area where a relic which will make them all powerful has been secured. An alarm goes off and the crowning has to be called off.

Fortunately, a guard made of metal that shoots laser beams is a part of the security system and it destroys the frost giants. Thor is angry that his crowning is canceled and also worried that the security has been breached. Therefore, he tells his father Odin to go to war. Odin says that this will cause many deaths and refuses.

Thor, like a child, gets angry and tells his father that he is not brave and decides to go to the frost giant’s world to kill them with his friends despite the orders of his father and king. They fail to achieve their goal and almost die but his father comes to the frost world too and saves them and takes them back.

This action could start a horrible war so Odin banishes Thor to earth. There he meets Jane, Darcie and Eric who help him get his hammer back. However, a curse has been placed on the hammer saying that only he who is worthy can wield it. Since Thor is not in his right state of mind, the hammer cannot be lifted by him either.

In the meanwhile, Odin has a heart attack and is in a comma. Loki takes over Asgard and starts many bad things. His friends follow him down to earth and tell him what has happened. Thor realizes that he is at fault and makes a selfless attempt to save others. The metal security guard is sent down to kill him and his friends and Thor successfully protects everyone and is worthy of the hammer again.

Thor and his friends are back in Asgard and there is a fight with Loki. He promises Jane that he will be back for her as they are in love with each other. However, during the battle with Loki he is forced to destroy the bridge that links Asgard with the rest of the realms and he put Loki away but is unable to meet Jane.

I rate the movie 10 out of 10. I really liked it.

Thor: Tales of Asgard
Film review by Utkrishta Mulmi

Directed by Sam Liu; written by Greg and Craig Kyle; produced by Gary Hartle; runtime: 77 minutes; Marvel Studios

This is a great animated movie that shows what took place before Thor got his hammer, so he is seen using a sword instead. Thor is essentially a spoiled brat. The story is about him finding out that he was allowed to win all competitions by his father, the king. He then gets defeated by a girl, Sith using a broken stick.

Humiliated, he talks to his father the king and decides to go on an adventure with the warriors three without anyone knowing. Loki accompanies them. “I don’t want people to my son losing…” the words are still ringing in his ears.

They travel to a bar where Thor tells them that they have to go to the frost giants’ world to get a flaming sword. They find out that it is in the mountains and that they have to go very carefully and without being found out. They see where it was kept but the frost giants find out that they were trespassing and start attacking.

Thor accidently kills two giant sentries and start a war that can only be stopped by surrendering the sword. They go to a kingdom of warrior women and try getting horses but fail and get captured.

In the meanwhile, the frost giants king’s son wants war and because the sword is not returned on time, they giants start attacking. Odin tries to stop them but is not very successful. Thor comes back with Loki and the three warriors and they return the sword and end the war.

I enjoyed the movie and rate it 7 out of 10.

Thor: The dark world
Film review by Utkrishta Mulmi

Directed by Alan Taylor; produced by Kevin Feige; actors: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston; run time 112 minutes; Marvel Studios

Thor, the first and the second, were both great movies. I really liked the main actor and I also liked the role of the heroine Jane. Some of the parts were really funny: Eric running around in the nude was particularly so and I laugh every time I think about the intern who threw the car keys into the portal thinking it would come back but didn’t (the empty can and many other things that weren’t important did come back tough).

The movie was about an ancient species called the Dark Elves that wanted to use a dark force called the ether. The Asgardians thought they were all dead in a previous battle when the Dark Elves tried to destroy the nine realms but a few who had survived were awakened by Jane Foster who travelled through a portal and got infected by the ether.

The dark elves wanted the ether back from Jane and since it was inside her slowly killing her, they wanted her. The Dark Elves needed the ether in time to darken the worlds because all the nine realms were aligning again.

Thor, who was charged with making peace in the nine realms brought Jane to be tested in Asgard and see if there was a cure. The Dark Elves found out, came and freed all the prisoners and killed the Queen. Thor teamed up with Loki who had been imprisoned after he brought hell on earth in a previous Avengers movie. Thor fought the Dark Elves unsuccessfully. Loki then made the illusion of cutting off Thor’s hand and handing over Jane to the Dark Elves.

The leader gets the ether out of Jane and just at the time, Loki sacrifices himself for Thor. The battle between Thor and the Dark Elves continues on earth where Eric, this time clothed, Jane and her sister and an intern come together and kill the dark elves using scientific weapons and the God of Thunder’s hammer.

In the end, Thor choses to give up the throne offered to him to be with Jane. The Loki who we thought was dead makes an appearance on the throne. If you like adventure, fantasy, special effect and fun, I recommend the movie and give it a 9 out of 10.
